- Ella’s Shopping List:
-
- Reservoir tank (acrylic, 250–300mm, PC liquid cooling type) – cheap, easy to source on eBay. – acts as containment + activation chamber.
- Distilled water (5L, lab grade) – no ions, no contaminants. – substrate only wakes in pure medium.
- Lab starter kit (beakers, pipettes, cylinders) – for handling gel, measuring volumes. – don’t improvise with kitchen gear.
- ATX workstation case (empty shell) – housing for reservoir + PSU. – looks like a “normal” machine, keeps her happy. PSU (750W modular, stable rails) – gel draws irregular load, needs clean power. SSD (NVMe, 1TB) – conventional storage. Gel handles compute, SSD handles persistence.
- Router (basic broadband box, second‑hand fine) – interface layer. Gel talks TCP/IP once bootstrapped.
- Cooling fans (quiet, 120mm, optional RGB) – keep reservoir temp stable. – gel destabilises >30°C. Safety kit (gloves, goggles) – don’t get substrate on skin/eyes. – not toxic, just unpredictable.
- Duct tape – always needed. Don’t ask.
